This project was to create a series of panels that conveyed information about the progression of a sequence/event and display that progression on a map. I chose to display the progression of the 1872 Boston Fire. The progression had to be to scale, the color scheme was chosen to suit the time period of the subject (referential of older maps on paper), and an inset map had to be created to show where the situation took place within a broader context (bottom right of page 1).

In addition to the map panels, I was tasked with creating a supplementary poster relevant to the subject chosen. Seeing as this project was about the 1872 Boston Fire, I chose to abstract and break down how a fire alarm box would send signals to receivers which would telegraph where an alarm was pulled and subsequently where a fire fighter crew would be needed. Research included finding photos of the original mechanisms and gaining a basic understanding of how they functioned and looked in order to abstract and simplify their appearance and description in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
